Misuse of quotation marks has fascinated me since 1999, when I read someone complaining that his mom had bought a birthday card for him that said

Happy Birthday, "Son"!

Many people are still under the impression that quotation marks should be used for emphasis:

I've created an ironic award for those people. If you see someone misuse quotation marks, print out the high-resolution pdf version of the award, write the name of their business where it says "Recipient", and put it up somewhere near the offending sign. Or even better — just send it to them and see if you can get them to display it proudly:
